Capstones were great!

Saturday I went to the GW EMIS Capstones. For those of you not in the know, EMIS is the Executive Masters [MSIST degree] in Information Systems program at the George Washington University's School of Business. The Capstones are like a Thesis Paper that a Master's student would deliver in order to satisfy the requirements of their degree program; the Capstone is a team project. The goal of the project is to deliver a working product with a business plan demonstrating a feasible ROI and expected profitability timelines!

Recently an EMIS team member posed the question of "What is the business value of social networking" (thank you Tom). How does IBM or the Government use a site like LinkedIn ( http://www.linkedin.com/ ) or FaceBook ( http://www.facebook.com/ ) as a business tool? Currently we [the people] gain the value. We do our LinkedIn and FaceBook activities, and maybe click on a partner's link and buy something. These sites are very popular as millions use them. So how can social networking sites (or the idea for an internal social networking site) be beneficial to companies like IBM? I am thinking along the lines of a Knowledge Management (KM) tool. ( hmmmm me thinks me have an idea for my Capstone project) Thoughts?

I did something kind of a big. Applied for a Doctorate program @ GWU's Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD)

So I applied, hope I make the cut!  My mother is my inspiration to better myself and help others at the same time. Back in November mom was sick, and we had discussed the subject of a doctorate and how to help organizations succeed. She said it was a great idea and she will live to see me graduate!  So when she passed in December, it took the wind out of my sails. What happened to my Comic Book collection? Comic Books in the Cloud!?!

I remember reading about books going the way of the dodo bird . Looks like the iPad is going after the Kindle market in a way no-one would have ever thought --Comic Books. Neat huh? Actually this is very a smart concept in regards to cloud computing. I call it in the Pepsi approach to Paradigm Back in the day (mid to late 80’s), Pepsi had a tough time beating out Coca-Cola or Coke. This was after the Pepsi challenge successfully demonstrated that Pepsi tasted better than Coke. So, why was Coke number 1? In a word, Paradigm --people do not like change. Pepsi was took a new approach; they changed their slogan to “ Pepsi, the choice of a new generation ". Hence they went after the kids –me. See the adults wouldn’t change their Paradigm, Pepsi realized that kids grow up and buy things –like a Pepsi Cola. Now as I approach 40, I buy a lot of Pepsi and my Kids drink it.
