I just finished discussing the importa...Good post! I just finished discussing the importance of people in an organization. People make the company and enable its success. It is important for organizations to realize that and not view personnel as a commodity.
People are hired into an organization based on their fit and function -- the skills, competencies, and credentials they bring to the organization to fulfill a job requirement. From there it is up to the organization to train the people, provide tools for them to be successful, empower them to act on behalf of the organization by taking ownership, and cultivate the personnel so they can grow. Doing so is usually executed as part of a human capital management process. The result is employees that are personally rewarded for their contribution to the organization, increased job satisfaction, and growth opportunities. The benefit to the organization is a reduction in staff turnover and an increase in employee morale.
So, back to the point, people are the number one asset of the organization and should be treated as such. Retain good personnel and a new factory will be built.TommyBoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16318597223507578688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633360981582488960.post-87092811648209442712010-03-17T15:08:11.503-04:002010-03-17T15:08:11.503-04:00@jrunner, glad you like the article.
Yes, in my o...@jrunner, glad you like the article.

Yes, in my opinion, to become an effective architect, you need a background in administration and engineering. My reasoning is that you need an understanding of the people (administrator) and the Technology (engineering) roles –having a well rounded background will make your decision process easier. Your MS-IST degree is granted from the School of Business and you will see a business flare in regards to your tech classes. I too, have seen administrators pass themselves off as engineers with similar results. Do you think it is possible for an administrator to become an effective architect without first being an engineer? I just got accepted to GW's part-time MS-IST program and came across your blog. Do you have any tips you could share in regards to the program?jrunner02https://www.blogger.com/profile/15874668869716317191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633360981582488960.post-80245962966666883572010-02-26T10:12:54.830-05:002010-02-26T10:12:54.830-05:00Justin, True dat on the iCantAfford this! What the industry is focusing on is the Cloud concept or a limited footprint in an Organization. For instance at my place of employment, we are building a "cloud" using IBM WebSphere, making communications with other systems a "service" that we provide. New applications will take advantage of these services --hence they do not have to develop these interfaces. What I propose is taking it one step further and eliminate or reduce the desktop computer as we can take advantage of exiting services (cloud programs) --be they on the net or in our datacenter. Seems that this is the way the industry is going with Google Chrome, iPad/touch/phone and today Dell just stepped into the arena! We are looking at a true Paradigm shift.Jerry Rhoadshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09859815585361228870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633360981582488960.post-73634362954710215982010-02-24T22:42:02.635-05:002010-02-24T22:42:02.635-05:00I think this is an excellent market for Apple to s...I think this is an excellent market for Apple to seek out. However, I don't buy that the cloud will consume everything. Actually, Apple may in fact hurt their chances by moving into the cloud with the iPad. Apple is notoriously over-priced for their products, and the iPad is most certainly no exception. The price model they are using will only attract individuals with the extra income, or yuppies who are so addicted to Apple that they would buy something entitled iCrud if it was a convincing aronym (Computer Revolutionizing User Design... there ya go).

Pepsi brought people over because they could offer the kids a better product at the same price. But college students and the targetable market who save for the MacBook, the iPhone, the iPod, iPod Touch... now there's another iDevice? What I'd like is the Star Trek'ish "pad" that everyone seems to carry around the starship of the future. It clearly interfaces with the ships computer. The interface is intuitive. No keyboard or stylus is necessary. And it's size is somewhere between the iPhone and the iPad. To me, the iPad is just too big. Just like the iPhone/iPod is a bit too small. We need a middle-ware pad... no, I'm going to avoid all the potential humor here. I'm trying to be serious, really. :)

Give me the Star Trek pad. Mid sized, and integrated wirelessly into your own home system or the cloud. And please, open it up. My biggest complaint about the i"Products" is being tied into iTunes to get any apps. That's why I'd prefer an Android phone to an iPhone. But, hey that's just me and I'm clearly not an Apple fanboy!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02675370852078007907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633360981582488960.post-25469254959151751402009-11-05T14:43:15.442-05:002009-11-05T14:43:15.442-05:00LOL TommyboyLOL TommyboyJerry Rhoadshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09859815585361228870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633360981582488960.post-73082000769566438202009-11-05T14:41:51.363-05:002009-11-05T14:41:51.363-05:00Sounds likethe evolution that is taking place with...Sounds likethe evolution that is taking place with VMware.
